Missouri Police Blotter at the State Level

The Missouri State Highway Patrol runs the Show Me Crime portal, which is the main state hub for police blotter data and crime reports. The MSHP Criminal Justice Information Services division at 1510 East Elm Street in Jefferson City collects and stores all Missouri criminal history files. Every law enforcement agency in the state must send crime data to MSHP each month. This has been the rule since Missouri started statewide UCR reporting in 2001. You can reach CJIS at (573) 526-6153 or by email at CJIS@mshp.dps.mo.gov.

The MSHP Online Arrest Reports page shows arrests made by State Troopers over the last five days. It also has boat accident reports, traffic crash data, and active missing person statistics that you can search by county, troop, or statewide. These police blotter reports from state troopers cover highway stops, drug busts, and other arrests that fall under MSHP jurisdiction. The data is free to view and does not need an account.

The portal shows regional crime reporting contacts for each troop area. Kerri Smith serves as the program coordinator. Jay Stallons covers Troop A, Jesse Halley handles Troops B, C, and H, and other coordinators are assigned across the state. This structure means every part of Missouri has a point of contact for crime data questions.

How to Search Missouri Criminal History

The Missouri Automated Criminal History Site lets the public run name-based criminal history searches for Missouri state records. You need to make an account first. To search, you must enter a first name, last name, and either a date of birth or Social Security number. You can add up to two alias or maiden names per search. Results come back as "possible matches" since name-based checks can not be confirmed without fingerprints. The results show up as a secure PDF and are only available online. They will not be mailed out.

For a more reliable check, the MACHS Fingerprint Portal provides fingerprint-based background searches. IDEMIA runs the fingerprint services with locations across Missouri. You need a 4-digit registration number from your agency to get started. Call (573) 526-6312 or IDEMIA at 844-543-9712 for help. Results from fingerprint searches may take 30 days or more depending on what comes back.

Missouri Sunshine Law and Police Blotter Access

The Missouri Sunshine Law under Chapter 610 RSMo is what makes police blotter records available to the public. This law passed in 1973 and it covers meetings, records, votes, and actions of public government bodies. That includes sheriff offices and police departments across the state.

When you ask for police blotter records, the agency must act on your request by the end of the third business day. Copies cost up to 10 cents per page. Search and retrieval fees are billed at the hourly rate of the lowest-paid person who can do the work. A 2025 change through HB145 now lets agencies require that you pay fees before they fill the request. If an agency breaks the Sunshine Law, the Attorney General or local prosecutor can take them to court. Fines can reach $1,000 plus attorney fees. A sample request form is on the Attorney General's website.

You do not need to use the words "Sunshine Law" in your request. Written, oral, or electronic requests all work. Keep your request simple and specific. Ask for arrest logs, booking records, or incident reports for the dates and location you need.

County Sheriff Police Blotter Rosters

Most Missouri county sheriffs post jail rosters online. These rosters act as a real-time police blotter for the county. They show who is in jail right now, what charges they face, and when they were booked. Many counties also post a 48-hour release list so you can see who got out recently. The data fields on a typical Missouri jail roster include the full name, booking number, booking date, charges, bond amount, and mugshot when available.

Several systems power these rosters. JailTracker is common in counties like Greene and Christian. VineLink (at vinelink.com) covers many facilities statewide and lets you search by name or ID number. Some larger counties run their own custom systems with direct web portals.

Not every county has a polished online system. Smaller rural counties may require a phone call to the jail for current booking data. But under the Sunshine Law, they still must give you the information when you ask.

Missouri Court Records and Police Blotter Data

Missouri Case.net is the statewide court records portal. It covers all Circuit Courts across the state. You can search by party name, case number, or filing date to find criminal cases that started with a police blotter entry. The system is free for basic searches and shows docket information, filing dates, and case outcomes. Records go back to 1995 for most courts. Visit courts.mo.gov/casenet to search.

The Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search lets you look up people who are supervised by the state prison system. This includes active inmates, probationers, and parolees. Search by first and last name. The system does not show discharged offenders whose sentences are done. You can find DOC ID numbers, current location, sentence details, and offense information. Some people may be left out for safety or security reasons.

Missouri Sex Offender Registry

The Missouri Sex Offender Registry is run by the MSHP CJIS Division. You can call the toll-free number at 1-888-SOR-MSHP (767-6747) or search online by name, date of birth, county, city, or street. The registry tracks home, work, school, temporary, and incarcerated addresses. Offenders are sorted into tiers: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Predator. Each tier has different notification rules.

A map search tool lets you find registered offenders within 500 feet to 15 miles of any address in Missouri. Records get updated daily. The registry started in 1995 under the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children Act.

Missouri Department of Public Safety

The Missouri Department of Public Safety is the parent agency over the State Highway Patrol and other public safety programs. It runs the Missouri Law Enforcement Use of Force Report, victim assistance programs, and the 911 Service Board. The department also manages the Missouri Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights program and the Missouri Blue Scholarship for law enforcement training.

The State Highway Patrol official website has quick links to the sex offender registry, road work zones, and emergency preparedness info. For highway emergencies, cell phone users can dial *55. The toll-free emergency line is 1-800-525-5555. Crime information and statistics are also available through the main MSHP site.
